Nutcracker Sweet

A holiday favorite, this trustworthy nutcracker stands guard between the peppermint pillars at the Land of Sweets. Simple embellishments add to the unique charm of this seasonal wall hanging. The quilt can be made easily with a holiday charm pack and a few small pieces of wool and trims.

Supplies

  • (40) 5” x 5” holiday charm pack squares or an assortment of (40) 5” x 5” Christmas prints, including lights and darks and white on white. (Extra squares are allowed for variety)
  • 1/4 yd. diagonally striped fabric for peppermint pillars
  • 1/4 yd. black wool for hat, boots, belt, moustache, and eyebrows
  • 1/8 yd. blue wool for pants
  • 1/8 yd. white wool felt for hair and beard
  • 1/4 yd. pale peach wool felt for face and hands
  • 2 – black 3/4” – 1” buttons for eyes
  • 12- 1/4” gold buttons for boots
  • Gold  #5 pearl cotton for bootlaces
  • 1/3 yd.  looped gold trim for lower cuffs and hat; 6” narrow gold trim for upper cuffs
  • 1/4 yd. paper fusible web
  • Red, fine line permanent marker for mouth
  • 1 yd. backing fabric
  • 1/4 yd. binding fabric
